Her mother is Filipina as is her father, and she is of Irish and Scottish roots. Mitchell has also been identified as the relative of Lea Salonga - a famous musical theatre actress and singer. Mitchell went to Rockridge Secondary, before switching to West Vancouver Secondary. The actress had already been modeling across the world by the time she reached her teens. Following trips to Barcelona, Bangkok and Hong Kong she returned to Toronto, where she studied acting.
